What's In The Quote

Everything you'd expect from a proper install — included.

A lot of cheap boiler quotes hide the things that actually matter — the filter, the flush, the controls, the paperwork. We don't. Every fixed-price Macara quote covers the lot so you know exactly what you're paying for.

A properly sized boiler

We work out the right boiler size based on your property, radiator load, and hot water demand — not by picking whatever's on a special offer that week.

Magnetic system filter

Fitted as standard on every installation to catch sludge and debris, protect the new boiler, and keep the manufacturer warranty valid for its full term.

Power flush where needed

If the existing system is heavily sludged, we'll power flush it before commissioning the new boiler. No rushed installs over a dirty system.

Controls and thermostat

Modern programmable controls or a smart thermostat fitted and set up properly, with a proper walk-through of how to use them before we leave.

Gas Safe notification

We notify Gas Safe of the new installation on your behalf and provide the paperwork confirming everything was signed off correctly.

Warranty registration

We register the manufacturer warranty for you — up to 10 or 12 years with some brands — so you don't have to chase paperwork after the job is done.

Boiler Brands We Install

A short list of brands we actually trust.

We don't fit every brand under the sun. We fit the ones that are reliable, well-supported, and backed by proper warranties — so when you pick up the phone in five years, parts and support are still easy to come by.

Up to 12 years

Worcester Bosch

A long-standing favourite across Scotland. Reliable, well-supported, and available with extended warranties on many models when installed by qualified engineers.

Up to 10 years

Vaillant

German engineering with a strong reputation for efficiency and longevity. A good choice where quiet operation and long-term reliability matter most.

Up to 10 years

Ideal

Manufactured in the UK, Ideal boilers offer great value for money without cutting corners on build quality. A sensible mid-range option.

Up to 10 years

Baxi

Another long-established British brand — dependable, straightforward to service, and widely supported across the Lothians for parts and aftercare.

Up to 10 years

Viessmann

Premium German build with excellent efficiency figures. A strong option for homeowners who want the best possible long-term performance.

Not sure which brand is right for you? We'll talk you through the real differences — efficiency, reliability, warranty terms, and running costs — at the free survey, without pushing the most expensive option.

On Installation Day

What actually happens, hour by hour.

A straight combi swap is usually a one-day job. A full system conversion takes two. Either way, here's what to expect when our engineers turn up at your door.

01

Arrival and protection

We arrive first thing, put down dust sheets and floor protection, and isolate the existing gas, water, and electrical supplies before any work starts.

02

Drain-down and removal

The existing system is drained properly. The old boiler is disconnected, removed, and the location is prepared for the new unit.

03

Pipework, flue, and fitting

New pipework is run where needed, the flue is fitted to manufacturer specification, and the new boiler is mounted securely.

04

System flush and filter

We flush the heating circuit, fit the magnetic filter, and dose the system with inhibitor to protect the new boiler long-term.

05

Commissioning and testing

The boiler is commissioned to manufacturer spec, gas rate and flue gas analysis are checked, and every radiator is tested under load.

06

Handover and clean-up

We walk you through the new controls, complete the benchmark and Gas Safe paperwork, and leave the property clean and tidy.

Free home survey before any price is confirmed

We don't quote boilers blind over the phone. A Gas Safe engineer visits the property, checks the existing setup, and sizes the replacement to your heating and hot water demand. Only then do you get a written quote covering the boiler, the install, and everything we include as standard.

  • Free home survey, no obligation to go ahead
  • Written quote covering everything in one price — no surprises
  • Time to compare, think, and ask questions before you decide

Long warranties and real aftercare

Because we're a Gas Safe installer fitting approved brands, we can register manufacturer warranties of up to 10 or 12 years on many boilers. Annual servicing keeps the warranty valid for its full term — and because we're local, you're never more than a phone call away from the same team that fitted it.

  • Warranty registration handled on your behalf
  • Annual service reminders from us, not a call-centre
  • Local aftercare — the same team, not a subcontractor

Boiler Installation FAQs

The questions we're asked most before an install.

How much does a new boiler cost in Edinburgh?

For most Edinburgh homes, a new combi boiler installed costs between £2,200 and £3,500, depending on the brand, model, and how much pipework needs changing. System and regular boiler installs typically run £2,800 to £4,200 once the cylinder and controls are factored in. We give a fixed written quote after a free survey so you know exactly what you're paying before any work starts.

How long does a boiler installation take?

A straightforward combi-for-combi swap is usually a one-day job. A full system change — for example moving from a regular boiler with tanks to a combi — typically takes two days. We clean up properly before leaving and walk you through how to use the new controls before we go.

Should I get a combi, system, or regular boiler?

Combis suit most small to medium homes with one bathroom — no tanks, hot water on demand, less space taken up. System boilers suit larger homes or households with two or more bathrooms where you need strong hot water flow to more than one outlet. Regular boilers are usually kept for older properties with existing tanks and low mains pressure.

When should I replace my old boiler?

Most domestic boilers last 10-15 years. If yours is over 10 years old, struggling to hold pressure, noisy, needing repeated repairs, or costing more in gas each year, it's usually cheaper in the long run to replace it than keep fixing it. A new A-rated boiler can cut your heating bills by 20-30% compared with an old G-rated one.

Do you offer finance on new boilers?

We don't currently offer a structured finance product, but we keep pricing simple and upfront. On larger installs and heat pump projects we can discuss staged payments tied to the project milestones — just ask at the survey and we'll be straight about what's possible.
